The Comfort of Nitrous Oxide

View of Nitrous Oxide Sedation in useAt Oak Ridge Dental Arts, we want your dental experience to be calm and comfortable. That's why we offer the option of Nitrous Oxide sedation during your visit.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective gas, mixed with oxygen, inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. The mask is available in flavors such as mint, vanilla, and strawberry. These sweet smelling flavors distract the patient with a pleasant aroma that can lessen the clinical atmosphere, uncomfortable sounds, and stressful feelings they may experience during dental procedures.

Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is intended to make you feel calm and comfortable. It is not designed to put you to sleep. You will be able to hear and respond to your dentist's questions and requests while nitrous oxide is administered. You may experience light-headedness or a tingling in your arms and legs and your limbs may start to feel heavy. This is a normal side effect of the gas. Simply concentrate on breathing normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you will feel the calming effects of the nitrous oxide. The sedation will wear off soon after the mask is removed.

If you're feeling anxious about your dental procedure, talk to the doctors at Oak Ridge Dental Arts about nitrous oxide sedation. We look forward to providing you with a comfortable treatment by administering nitrous oxide sedation to help you relax and be calm throughout your procedure.
