New Year, New Resolutions!

A NEW YEAR IS A NEW BEGINNING, which is why so many of us make New Year’s resolutions. If there’s something we want to change or to accomplish, a fresh year seems like the perfect time to start. When writing your resolution list, remember to include your dental health goals! Here are 5 New Year’s Resolutions you may wish to add to your list this year.

1. Daily Dental Care
One resolution you may have on your list is to improve your at-home dental care. Daily dental care is extremely important to your oral health and overall health. The ADA suggests you brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day and to floss your teeth once a day. These steps may be hard to remember, but making it a goal to brush and floss every day will pay off in the end. Daily at-home dental care will help keep your teeth and gums healthy and help prevent tooth decay and other oral health problems. Try to create the habit of brushing and flossing your teeth right before you go to sleep and brushing your teeth right when you wake up. This will make your daily dental care routine easier to remember and lead to the healthy smile you deserve.
2. New Year, New Smile
If you are looking to enhance your smile this year, we are here to help! Whether you want a brighter, straighter, or restored smile, we at Oak Ridge Dental Arts can help you achieve your smile goals. If a brighter, whiter smile is your goal, we provide in-office teeth whitening or a custom take-home whitening kit. At Oak Ridge Dental Arts, we can help you achieve a straighter smile with traditional braces or invisalign. If you have a chipped, missing or broken tooth, our cosmetic treatment, dental implants, and other comprehensive services can help restore your smile and achieve the smile you deserve. A new smile not only enhances your appearance, it also builds your confidence to show the world your beautiful smile. Come in and consult with one of our experienced doctors to see what treatment options are best to achieve your dental goals this year.
3. Healthy Diet
Whether your resolution is to lose weight, or live a healthier lifestyle, a healthy diet also leads to a healthy smile! Foods high in sugar and carbs feed the harmful bacteria living in your mouth and acidic drinks erode tooth enamel. Avoiding some of these foods will help, but there are also plenty of foods you can eat that are actually good for your teeth. Foods high in calcium and protein help prevent tooth decay and protect your tooth enamel. Vegetables, fruits, proteins, and healthy fats are all crucial to having good oral health!
4. Smile More
While we generally think of smiling as the result of feeling happy, smiling, even when we don’t feel like it, smiling can actually improve our mood and emotional disposition. In other words, pasting a smile on your face, even if you’re faking it, can make you feel happier! Smiling also reduces stress and strengthens your immune system. Keep smiling all year long for a happier, healthier life!
5. Routine Dental Visits
Visiting your dentist every six months is an important part of maintaining your oral health. Not only does it keep your smile clean, but it can help you keep an eye on your overall health too! Dental problems don’t go away on their own and tend to get worse, which also makes them more difficult (and expensive) to fix. Regular dental checkups catch problems early so that more intense treatment doesn’t become necessary. Whether it’s been six months or longer since the last time we saw you, we’re looking forward to seeing you again. Schedule your appointment today and we will help you maintain a healthy, beautiful smile!
